Jetman and Scientist

Jetman: So I just hit the gas and—?
Scientist: Hit the gas and you'll accelerate up, but don't accelerate too far or you'll hit those rocks.
Jetman: And if I let go of the gas?
Scientist: The jetpack will stop working and you will fall onto those rocks down there.
Jetman: What if I just want to go straight, to avoid the rocks above and below me?
Scientist: Just tap the gas repeatedly at a constant, calculated rate.
Jetman: That seems pretty simple.
Scientist: Jetman, there will also be rocks placed strategically in front of you at varying intervals such that if you manage to avoid one, your chances of hitting the next one are nearly 100% certain.
Jetman: So what about all the other buttons on this thing?
Scientist: Those are stickers.
Jetman: So there's—?
Scientist: There's only one button.
